How Pear works

What is Pear and how does it work?
Pear connects to your Gmail account using read-only access and scans your inbox for subscription-related emails — billing receipts, renewal notices, and membership confirmations. An AI then extracts the vendor name, cost, and billing frequency from each email, giving you a complete picture of what you're paying for. The whole scan typically takes under 60 seconds.
What does Pear actually read in my Gmail?
Pear searches for emails matching billing and subscription keywords (words like "receipt", "renewal", "membership", "payment"). It reads the sender address, subject line, and email body only for emails that match those keywords. It does not read, store, or access any other emails in your inbox.
Do I need to leave Gmail connected after the scan?
No. Pear uses your Gmail access for the duration of the scan only — typically under 60 seconds. Once the scan is complete, the access token expires automatically. You do not need to keep Gmail connected between audits.
Does Pear work with Outlook, Yahoo Mail, or other email providers?
Not yet. Pear currently supports Gmail only. Support for Outlook and other providers is on our roadmap.
Can I use Pear on mobile?
Yes — Pear works in any modern browser, including mobile browsers on iOS and Android. The dashboard is fully responsive.

Privacy & security

Is it safe to connect my Gmail?
Yes. Pear uses Google's official OAuth system — you grant permission directly through Google's secure login screen, and Pear never sees your Google password. We request read-only access, which means Pear cannot send, delete, or modify any of your emails.
What data does Pear store about me?
Pear stores only extracted metadata: the subscription name, billing amount, billing frequency, and renewal date. We never store the content of your emails. Email data is processed in memory and immediately discarded after the scan.
How do I disconnect my Gmail from Pear?
You can revoke Pear's access at any time by visiting myaccount.google.com/permissions, finding "Pear" in the list, and clicking "Remove Access". This immediately prevents Pear from accessing your Gmail. Your existing scan results remain in your Pear account until you request deletion.
Does Pear sell my data?
No. We do not sell, share, or rent your personal data to any third party, ever. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Is Pear GDPR compliant?
Yes. We are based in the EU and built Pear with GDPR compliance from the start. You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data at any time. Contact us at team@peardown.eu with "Data Request" in the subject line and we will respond within 30 days.
Why does Google show a warning when I connect Gmail?
Google displays an "unverified app" warning for apps that access Gmail while awaiting Google's formal verification review. Our app is currently going through that review process, which typically takes 2–4 weeks. The warning is a standard Google caution — not an indication that Pear is unsafe. You can safely click "Advanced → Go to peardown.eu" to proceed. Once Google completes their review, the warning will no longer appear.

Scan results

Why didn't Pear find Netflix, Spotify, Apple TV, or another subscription I know I have?
Occasionally some subscriptions are missed in the standard scan if the billing email uses unusual subject lines or keywords. Try running a Deep Scan from your dashboard — this searches more thoroughly for specific vendor emails. You can also add any missed subscription manually using the "Add subscription" button on your dashboard. Both methods take under a minute.
Some subscriptions show "Cost unknown" — why?
A "Cost unknown" result means Pear found evidence of a subscription but couldn't extract the cost from the email preview. Run a Deep Scan from your dashboard to fetch the full email content and extract the cost automatically. Alternatively, click "Cost unknown — add" on any subscription row to enter the cost yourself.
A subscription shows up that I already cancelled — what do I do?
Click "I've cancelled it" on that subscription row. This moves it to the Cancelled section, which shows you how much you're saving per month. If you want to hide it completely, click "Ignore" instead — it will be removed from your totals and stored in a hidden section you can expand any time.
I see a subscription I don't recognise — should I be worried?
Not necessarily. Subscription names in billing emails sometimes differ from the brand name you know — for example, "DAZN Group" instead of "DAZN", or "Valve Corporation" instead of "Steam". If you genuinely don't recognise a charge, click "Cancel →" to search Google for the vendor name, and check your bank statement to confirm whether it's actively billing you.
The same subscription appears twice — how do I remove the duplicate?
Click "Ignore" on the duplicate row. It will be hidden from your totals but kept in the hidden section in case you need it later.
Pear found a free trial I forgot about — is it actually charging me?
If Pear found it, it found a billing email, which means the trial has very likely converted to a paid subscription. Click "Cancel →" on that row to search how to cancel it, and check your bank statement to confirm the charge.
Can I add a subscription that Pear didn't detect?
Yes — use the "Add subscription" button at the bottom of your subscription list. You can add the name, billing amount, currency, and frequency manually. Manually added subscriptions are included in your totals and can be cancelled or ignored just like detected ones.

Audit credits

What are audit credits?
Each subscription audit uses one credit. A credit runs one full Gmail scan — Pear searches your inbox, classifies emails with AI, and produces your subscription list. Credits let you run audits whenever you want without a recurring subscription.
How many credits do I need?
One credit is enough for most people. We recommend running a fresh audit every few months to catch new subscriptions and price changes. Pear Basic (4 credits) covers a full year of quarterly audits. Pear Plus (12 credits) is better value if you want to audit more frequently.
Do credits expire?
Credits are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. Your expiry dates are shown on your dashboard.
Can I share credits with someone else?
Credits are tied to your Pear account and cannot be transferred to another account. Each person who wants to run an audit needs their own account and credits.
Can I buy more credits after I run out?
Yes — if your credits run out, you can purchase another pack from your dashboard at any time. There is no obligation to buy more.

Billing & refunds

Is Pear really a one-time payment with no subscription?
Yes, genuinely. You buy a credit pack once and use it whenever you like. There is no monthly charge, no auto-renewal, and no hidden fees. We deliberately avoided charging a subscription fee for a tool that helps you cancel subscriptions.
I want a refund — how do I request one?
We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee with no questions asked. Email team@peardown.eu with "Refund" in the subject line and include the email address on your Pear account. Refunds are processed within 5 business days.
I was charged but my credits didn't appear — what should I do?
Credits are added automatically after successful payment. If they haven't appeared within a few minutes, try refreshing your dashboard. If they're still missing, email team@peardown.eu with "Missing credits" in the subject line, including your account email and the approximate time of purchase. We'll sort it out immediately.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards via Stripe. Apple Pay and Google Pay are also available depending on your browser and device.
Is my payment information secure?
Yes. All payments are handled by Stripe — Pear never sees or stores your card details. Stripe is PCI DSS Level 1 certified, the highest level of payment security certification.

Technical issues

The scan is taking a long time or appears to be stuck — what should I do?
Scans typically complete in under 60 seconds. If your scan has been processing for more than 3 minutes, try refreshing the page. If it shows an error, try running the scan again — credits are only deducted for successfully completed scans, so you won't be charged for a failed scan.
I get an error or "Access blocked" when connecting Gmail — what should I try?
First, make sure you're selecting the correct Google account. If you see "Access blocked", try clearing your browser cookies and cache, then attempt the connection again in a fresh browser tab. If Google shows a code like 403 or 401, sign out of your Pear account and sign back in, then try the scan again. If the issue persists, contact us and we'll help you troubleshoot.
Can I run multiple audits?
Yes — each audit uses one credit and produces a fresh scan of your inbox. Running a new audit replaces the previous scan results in your dashboard. Manually added subscriptions are kept across audits.
Which browsers does Pear support?
Pear works in all modern browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. We recommend keeping your browser up to date for the best experience.
How do I delete my Pear account and all my data?
Email team@peardown.eu with "Delete my account" in the subject line and include your account email address. We will permanently delete your account and all associated data within 7 days and confirm when it's done.
